Former pretrial officer sentenced for robberies

A former Kentucky pretrial release officer was sentenced last week to almost 13 years in prison for helping a man rob two banks.
U.S. District Judge Edward Johnstone ordered federal marshals to take Connie Sue Harr, of LaCenter in Ballard County, into immediate custody to begin serving a 155-month sentence.
She had been allowed to remain free on bond after pleading guilty to bank robbery and firearms charges in September.
Harr, 33, sobbed as she apologized for helping Durward Perry, 33, a man she says is now her husband, rob two rural banks in Ballard County in 2002.
She was referring to an incident after her arrest in which she disarmed a Ballard County deputy sheriff and held a gun on an FBI agent briefly before surrendering the weapon.
Harr, Perry and his cousin, Willie Cortez Blue, first robbed the Citizen's State Bank of Kevil on Sept. 22, 2002, and escaped with $9,015. Then Blue returned to Philadelphia, his hometown.
Harr and Perry robbed a second bank on Oct. 22 and took $2,370. They were arrested trying to flee on a bridge over the Ohio River. In the car police found masks and some of the money.
Harr worked for the state Administrative Office of the Courts for a decade, traveling to jails to interview inmates and assess their eligibility for release.
She met Perry in 2001 while he was jailed in McCracken County for cocaine possession.
Perry, who also pleaded guilty to robbing the banks, received a 14-year sentence.
At the request of federal prosecutors, Blue will serve an 81/2-year sentence. Assistant U.S. Attorney Michele Stephenson said Blue cooperated with investigators.
Harr, Blue and Perry also were ordered to jointly pay $9,015 in restitution.
