MAINE - Monday evening’s tense hostage situation inside the Maine State Prison nearly came to a violent end, the state’s corrections commissioner said Tuesday. "We had a tactical team in the facility, and we were fully prepared to take him out," Corrections Commissioner Martin Magnusson said of hostage-taker Michael Chasse in a press briefing Tuesday at the Wellness Center conference room on the east campus of the Riverview Psychiatric Hospital. A state police tactical squad smashed through a plate-glass window with guns ready to fire to bring an end to the tense standoff with Chasse, who was holding two hostages for seven hours, officials said Tuesday.
