RACINE - One Republican sheriff's candidate has collected and spent more than the other two combined. Christopher Schmaling, Gonzalo Gonzalez and Ronald Molnar are seeking to replace retiring Sheriff Bob Carlson. The three have spent a combined $15,174.58 during this reporting period, and $57,157.45 this year. More than half of that was spent by Schmaling, according to campaign finance reports filed by the candidates this week. The pre-primary reports cover the period from July 1 through Aug. 30. Schmaling, 38, Racine, is an investigator with the Racine County Sheriff's Department, currently on leave to run his campaign. Excluding the $21,468.07 he loaned his campaign, Schmaling received $20,261.68 in contributions this year and $9,921.68 this period. Read More. |
