Additional law enforcement was dispatched to the Gage County Jail Sunday evening to assist with a distress call from on-duty correctional workers.

According to a press release from the Gage County Sheriff’s Department, 28-year-old Joshua Barber caused a disturbance in his cell block and was not complying with orders from correctional officers to enter his cell.

Correctional officers entered the cell block shortly before 7:30 p.m. to escort Barber into his holding cell and a struggle ensued.

During the struggle, one of the Correctional Officers sustained an injury to their forehead. The Correctional Officer deployed their Taser on the inmate, which alleviated the situation.

One attempt with the stun gun was unsuccessful, but two others connected.

Sheriff Millard “Gus” Gustafson said the injury to the correctional officer was not serious.
