ST. CLOUD, Minn. — One of the most recognizable buildings in Central Minnesota is turning 125. The Minnesota Correctional Facility-St. Cloud has housed criminals since 1889 and has undergone several transformations since it became the state's second prison. It remains the oldest facility in the Department of Corrections system; the state's first prison in Stillwater was later replaced by a facility in Bayport. The prison has been described as its own city, a place isolated by a granite wall from the public, where generations of families have earned a living and become like family with their fellow employees.
