Former guards consider Nevada jobs

RAYMONDVILLE — After landing a new job, Emiliano Marceleno said Monday that he would think about taking a prison job in Nevada about a month after becoming one of about 363 workers laid off at Willacy County’s tent-city prison.

The Nevada Department of Corrections, which has 40 openings for correctional officers at the Ely State Prison that pay from $38,523 to $56,626, is “opening the door” for guards who lost their jobs at the Willacy County Correctional Center, agency spokeswoman Sharlet Gabriel said from Las Vegas.

“I’m pretty sure I’d do it,” said Marceleno, 20, who took a job with the Boll Weevil Eradication Program nearly a month after losing his prison job following a Feb. 20 inmate uprising that destroyed much of the facility.
