(KUTV) A director and a regional administrator with the Utah Department of Corrections resigned on Thursday following a number of communication errors that led to the release of a fugitive who shot and killed a Unified Police Officer in January. The action happened to enhance UDOC's "management and supervision of offenders in the community," UDOC spokesperson Brooke Adams wrote in a news release on Thursday afternoon. Geri Miller-Fox, director of the division of Adult Probation and Parole, and Wendy Horlacher, regional administrator for AP&P Region 3 both resigned on Thursday. This decision comes on the heels of an announcment from Utah Gov. Gary Herbert who said recent employee errors that led to an influx of violent fugitives being released from a correctional facility were "inexcusable." He called for an independent review to investigate the situation. Herbert's announcement also comes days after a man walked away from a Salt Lake City drug treatment center known as Fortitude Treatment Center at 1747 S. 900 West in January where officers say he rammed a police car and led officers on a chase. The man was still missing Thursday. Read More. |
