Eight inmates charged in Pickens Co. jail assault |

PICKENS, SC (FOX Carolina) - Pickens County deputies said eight inmates have been charged in a mob assault at the Pickens County Detention Center that sent two inmate victims to the hospital. The incident occurred on Friday, April 22, 2016, in one of the general population common areas. The common area is rated for a capacity of 32 but officials said 65 inmates were assigned to the area on the night of the attack due to issues associated with overcrowding. “The rated capacity for the entire facility is 93 and on the date of the assault the total population was 226 inmates,” Chief Deputy Creed Hashe stated.
