LANSING — Michigan prison officials are investigating after a drone-like toy flew undetected over the wall at a Jackson-area prison Tuesday and was later discovered on the ground by staff. The USB-powered Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Heli Ball — essentially a rubber ball topped with two propeller wings — was too small to carry contraband or a camera and did not come into contact with inmates, Corrections Department spokesman Chris Gautz told the Free Press Thursday. But it remains a mystery how the toy — which sells for less than $14 and has limited range — flew over the wall at the Charles Egeler Reception and Guidance Center, where new state prisoners are held until they're assigned to more permanent homes.
