Prisoners convicted of murder as juveniles ask for transfer to minimum-security prison

On Aug. 2, 1975, in Dorchester, Seigfried Golston, an 18-year-old black man, walked up behind a 34-year-old white man whom he had never met and hit him over the head with a baseball bat. Golston attributed the murder to his anger over racial tensions stemming from the 1970s busing of students between schools to promote desegregation, according to court documents.

On July 29, 1986, in Middleborough, Jeffrey Roberio, 17, entered the trailer home of an elderly man, savagely beat and strangled him, then stole his money and property.

Timothy Deal was convicted of murdering a Dorchester man in January 2002, when Deal was 17.
