Barnegat manhunt cost town at least $30,000 |

BARNEGAT TOWNSHIP — The manhunt for escaped convict Arthur Buckel last month brought with it nervous residents, extra police officers, national attention and a high cost to township taxpayers. The search left the township with about $30,000 in costs, according to documents obtained through the Open Public Records Act. Overall, 28 Barnegat police officers received some sort of overtime payment between May 4 and 9, totaling $24,337. Read More. |
