County sentences inmate who smuggled painkiller into jail |

A Crawford County jail inmate who overdosed at the jail after he smuggled a prescription painkiller into the facility last August has been sentenced to serve six to 12 months in the county jail. David A. Ortega, 38, was given the sentence and a $100 fine by Crawford County Court of Common Pleas Judge Mark Stevens on Thursday after pleading guilty in county court in May to one count of possession of a controlled substance. Ortega was charged after he had smuggled the narcotic drug Opana into the jail on Aug. 14, 2015, while out on work release, snorted it and overdosed at the jail.
