Blount Corrections Partnership gets update on jail overcrowding |

The Blount County Sheriff’s Office could be getting some outside help on overcrowding problems at the county jail. During Monday’s Blount County Corrections Partnership meeting, BCSO staff updated the committee on steps being taken to bring the county’s Adult Detention Center back into compliance with Tennessee Corrections Institute standards. Chief Deputy Jeff French said that staff from the National Institute of Corrections are working with the BCSO. Sheriff James Berrong has specifically requested the NIC provide technical assistance in evaluating pretrial diversion programs in the county. “They haven’t scheduled an on-site visit to Blount County yet, but that is their plan,” he said. “That is fantastic,” County Commissioner Tona Monroe said. “I think that’s a step in the right direction.” Read More. |
