Inmate charged with setting cell on fire |

An inmate at the Joplin City Jail has been charged with setting a padded cell on fire with a cigarette lighter that inmates are not allowed to have. The Jasper County prosecutor's office charged Ricky D. Pitts, 47, with first-degree arson in connection with a fire early Tuesday morning at the Joplin City Jail, 303 E. Third St. The Joplin Fire Department was called to the jail at 12:22 a.m. regarding a fire in G Cell, a padded cell for disruptive inmates. Jail staff were able to extinguish the fire before firefighters arrived, and no injuries to inmates or jail employees were reported, according to Joplin police. Read More. |
