No matter what happen's to me, I have to be careful to not let it happen in me. I see too many people postponing their happiness for when they, get more money, when they get a new job, when they get married, or when they start a new relationship. When you wake up in the morning you have a choice to either approach the day with a positive or negative attitude. I simply choose to be happy! Just choose to be happy today, with what you have, and don't wait for something to happen to be happy! THis job really does affect more often in a negative manner and if you don't have the supports at home or someplace else, the job will consume you! I've been fortunate to have been able to have a good support system in my family and friends, as well as having my spouse to keep me in check if I ever start treating her or my kids like inmates. I was raised and still consider myself a christian and I always try to put myself in the shoes of an inmate and wonder how I would survive in a prison environment not knowing who would be trying to assault you, extort you or even rape you! I always say to my collegues "there but for the grace of God goes I" for it is not impossible that I might find myself one day on the other side of the bars! I always considered myself an eternal optimist, but that was put to the test 2 years ago when I was wrongfully charged, arrested and fired from my job, after an inmate committed suicide. I remember telling myself while going through this ordeal a bible verse that says that "all things work together for your good.." and even though it was an unpleasant experience, I firmly believed that something good would eventually come from this. It took almost 15 months for the charges to be dropped and my job reinstated, but my optimism was my saving grace, and it allowed me to help my other collegues who were also charged to not lose hope and have faith that things will work out for their good.
