| Description: | The 21st century has quickly brought information technology and innovation to the forefront of many aspects of community corrections. Our own daily use of the internet, off-the-shelf and custom software, and other IT tools have become second nature in our personal and professional lives. The extensive use of technology, however, has not been lost on the criminally oriented. The diverse world of Cyber Crime has quickly evolved, promoting the objectives of organized crime organizations, terror groups, sexual predators and white collar offenders. The potential for high-tech criminal activity has quickly become vast and borderless. The National Symposium on Cyber Crime is an innovative and essential 3 1/2 day program that will bring together nationally recognized experts in the fields of on-line addiction/psychological disorders, academic research, digital evidence identification, and computer forensics, as they relate to pretrial, probation, and supervised release (parole). As the criminal use of information technology quickly adapts and evolves, we must not only be active in responding to complex threats to public safety and security, but we must work diligently in proactively assessing future threats. Collectively, through networking and education, we seek to identify and promote best practices for improved investigation & identification, more effective supervision and management strategies, and more reliable techniques for both investigations and supervision officers. The United States Pretrial Services Agency for the Central District of California in partnership with the Federal Probation & Pretrial Officers Association invite you to be a part of this very timely, significant and important national Cyber Crime program. If you have any questions regarding the conference, contact Senior U.S. Pretrial Services Officer Roger Pimentel at 213-894-8830. |
