| Description: | Public Safety Officers in the City of Rohnert Park have the unique opportunity of combining two great careers in one job. Public Safety Officers are trained in and perform both peace officer and firefighter duties. Public Safety Officers work in a community that is pleasant, clean, and offers many public amenities. They also enjoy community support, which has been enhanced by Community Oriented Policing. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE... Has education and/or experience which demonstrates self-drive and personal motivation; indicates an interest in others, dealing effectively and fairly with citizens and co-workers; identifies a problem and resolves it quickly while under pressure; and comprehends and relays the concept of Public Safety and Community Oriented Policing. REQUIREMENTS California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). Individuals currently attending a California POST academy and eligible for certification may apply. Individuals with glasses or hard lenses require uncorrected vision of 20/80 or better in both eyes. ALL individuals must be corrected to 20/20 in both eyes. Normal color vision and hearing. Basic First Aid Certificate issued by the American Red Cross, and completion of approved CPR course within one year of appointment. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS The salary range is $4,475 - $5,440 (effective 07/01/01). The City of Rohnert Park provides an excellent benefit package for their Public Safety Officers, which includes the following: PERS Retirement 2% at 50 which includes the employee portion paid by the employer. The City also participates in a PERS program that includes pension contributions as part of the salary on which the pension is based (EPMC). Health Insurance Employee may select from Blue Cross, Health Plan of the Redwoods, or Kaiser. Dental & Vision City-provided, self-insured programs Vacation Ten (10) days per calendar year Holidays Thirteen and one-half (13 1/2) paid holidays per year. Sick Leave Liberal sick leave plan. Qualified candidates will undergo a comprehensive background investigation, which includes a polygraph examination. Candidates receiving a conditional job offer must complete and pass a psychological evaluation and pre-placement physical examination. A two-year probationary period is the final part of the selection process. Employees must satisfactorily complete probation before obtaining regular status. |
