| Description: | The professional in this position supports a therapeutic environment by ensuring the safety and security of our residents. This professional will engage appropriately with our residents during all activities and follow all applicable policies, procedures and licensing standards set forth by the agency and all governing bodies. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Supervises residents at all times and during all activities. Activities include but are not limited to room time, group meetings, meals, hygiene times, recreation, visitations, vocational activities, and other activities; which may include programmatic specified room-checks. RESIDENT SUPERVISION Observes the behavior of residents to prevent disturbances and run aways. Is responsible for the physical safety and care of residents while under our care. Will conduct and document physical Head Counts to ensure that each resident is accounted for at least once every fifteen minutes. * This count is a visual count; the staff must visually look at the resident to verify the safety of the resident. * When assigned, each Life Skills Worker is responsible for the completion of the visual checks, documenting the checks on the physical Head Count form and turning the successfully completed Head Count form into the unit Treatment Supervisor by the end of the shift. Each Life Skill Worker is assigned, at the beginning of each shift, to a sector within a living unit hallway (sectors A, B, or C). Therefore, residents who are engaged in a sanctioned activity in each of those sectors will be automatically assigned to the staff members in charge of those sectors for the duration of the activities. Assigns, supervises, and directs residents during assignments. Provides leadership and serves as a role model to residents in the performance of therapeutic activities and during all supervised visitation. Assist residents and their families in the orientation process to the specific program/facility. Assists in leading group meetings, issues groups, other special groups, client activities and utilizes outside resources for some programmatic activities. Escorts residents to and from various locations such as visiting areas, medical offices, and religious services. Reports significant changes in the behavior, attitude, or physical condition of residents to higher-level staff members. Documents the progress of resident's behavior on a daily basis. When applicable, visually and physically searches residents and their quarters for contraband, weapons or narcotics. Inspects and directs cleaning activities of residents for maintenance of sanitation, orderliness and safety. Inspects assigned areas for evidence of forbidden activities, infraction of rules, fire and safety hazards. Assists in appropriately managing crisis situations, which may occur within the program/facility. Participates in programmatic activities designed to prepare residents for release. Maintains necessary records and progress reports such as daily logs and incident reports. Work schedules will vary based upon program/facility needs; assist in on-call emergency network. Transport residents to and from program/facility for related meetings and activities as needed. Attends staff meetings and conferences. Supports the facility mission and promotes the Seven Key Principles of Quality Care. Promotes a positive image for all stakeholders and customers they may encounter. Performs other duties as required. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES The position has no supervisory responsibilities. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hand to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and use legs to lift/move up to 50 lbs. or more. Ability to participate in and supervise therapeutic recreation activities structured for children and adolescents. May be required to intervene with and/or physically manage aggressive residents as trained by safe crisis management. Training Requirements Life Skills Workers are required to attend orientation training, annual training and on-going training per licensing standards. Failure to fulfill training requirements will result in the discontinuation of work until training requirements are met. Some of the required training elements are (but not limited to): * Resident Supervision Policy (staff must sign acknowledgement form) * Safe Crisis Management (non physical and physical interventions) * Safe Intervention Project Policies and Procedures * American Red Cross First Aid and CPR * Intensive Supervision Procedures (ISP) * Close Observation (CO) Procedures * Professional Expectations * Code of Conduct and Boundary Issues Life Skills Workers are required to attend a training focusing on supervision of residents and the policy and procedure dealing with supervision. The training module will include pre and post tests to measure competency. |
