| Description: | Job Summary: Provides nursing intervention(s) to improve and maintain the emotional and physical health of the patient(s). Performs nursing care activities under the supervision and/or direction of the Clinical Nurse Supervisor or Staff Nurse. Participates in the Behavioral Health treatment milieu program under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and in conjunction with the Clinical Coordinator. Duties & Responsibilities: 1. Identifies normal versus abnormal physical issues of patients and supports assessment. 2. Recognizes change in patient physical and emotional status and reports appropriate information to the appropriate personnel. 3. Demonstrates an understanding of the purpose of medication in treatment and assesses the patient for anticipated actions, contraindications and side effects. 4. Ensures patient safety by the reporting of incidents and medication errors. 5. Participates in the revision of the treatment plan. 6. Monitors the self-administration program. 7. Administers nursing care as directed and according to policy. 8. Administers medications as indicated. Documents medication therapy and maintains appropriate records pertaining to controlled substances. 9. Flexibility to adapt to schedule changes and assumption of responsibilities which are related to work as a member of an addiction or behavioral health treatment team. 10. Transcribes or assists with the transcription of physician's orders. 11. Communicates accurate information regarding patient status. 12. Updates the physician and interdisciplinary team regarding patient's current and potential problems. 13. Evaluates patient's response and reaction (if any) to medications administered and documents same. 14. Informs the physician of patient's response to medications and the medical treatment. 15. Participates in and contributes to unit conferences and staff meetings. 16. Communicates accurate information regarding patient's status during shift reports. 17. Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively with others (verbally and written). 18. Maintains constructive, supportive working relationships among superiors and peers. 19. Participates in the orientation of new employees, volunteers, and students. 20. Promotes and participates in patient education. 21. Transports patients to health appointments, as needed. 22. Follows up on medical/psychiatric referrals. 23. Demonstrates responsibility for the cleanliness and organization of assigned work area and equipment, maintaining supplies in a safe and efficient manner. Reports needed maintenance and repairs. 24. Demonstrates responsibility in the use and allocation of various resources, i.e., time, supplies, etc. 25. Participates in the infection control program. 26. Adheres to confidentiality requirements. 27. Attends mandatory inservices. 28. Knowledge of the procedures to follow in the event of an incident. 29. Knowledge of job responsibility in emergency. 30. Knowledge of responsibility regarding actions to minimize, eliminate, and report risks. Qualifications: (education, experience, certification, and licensure) 1. Current licensure as a practical nurse in the state of CO. 2. One to two years previous experience working with the chemically dependent or mentally ill patient. 3. Two to three years general medical practical nursing experience. 4. Current Colorado Drivers License. |
