Description: PROGRAM SERVICES HEALTH SERVICES/MENTAL HEALTH ARIZONA STATE PRISON COMPLEX-LEWIS BUCKEYE, ARIZONA POSITION #: ADC00F974AHO UNCOVERED POSITION: THIS POSITION IS NOT SUBJECT TO THE PROVISIONS OF THE PERSONNEL RULES OF ARIZONA STATE SERVICE. This position will be responsible for identifying and evaluating mental health issues to inmates housed at an institution; obtaining psychiatric history and conducting mental status examinations appropriate to the patient's concerns; treating existing psychiatric problems and recommending treatment; making diagnoses and developing medication regimens; ordering x-ray and labs; responding to emergencies and treating urgent psychiatric problems; documenting changes in treatment; reviewing medical records with medical provider and psychiatric staff as needed; discussing issues and problems with the mental health team; participating in staff meetings and treatment team meetings; completing written responses to inmate grievances, letters, and lawsuits; and performing other duties appropriate to the assignment. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs): KNOWLEDGE: Of the nature and cause of mental illness; evaluation and measurement instruments and techniques; pharmacology with an emphasis on psychotropic medications; emergency care; current medications and treatment regimens for psychiatric disorders; interpersonal relations and written and verbal communication. SKILL: In time management; organization; decision making; problem solving; conflict resolution; providing appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic services to patients with both acute and chronic psychiatric conditions; making appropriate referrals to specialists or hospitals; working within a multidisciplinary mental health treatment team; developing individual treatment plans. ABILITY: To work in a prison environment; establish solid working relationships; adapt to changing priorities; use personal computers and associated software; learn and adhere to policies and procedures. SPECIAL SELECTION FACTOR: Must possess a current license and/or certification as a Mental Health/Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in the State of Arizona. Applicant must provide license number on resume and a copy of the license at time of interview. PREFERRED CANDIDATE: Will possess experience providing psychiatric care; evaluating mental health issues; and/or previous experience with the Arizona Department of Corrections. Employment is contingent on the successful applicant passing a background investigation, and a pre-employment drug test. Positions in this classification participate in the Correctional Officer Retirement Plan (CORP).
