As the Physician Assistant/Nurse Practioner you will provide diagnostic, therapeutic and medical procedures, within statutory and regulatory provisions, for assigned patients; elicits medical history, performs physical examinations; stabilizes and manages medical and surgical emergencies; recognizes cases to be referred to physician; telephonic consultation; and performs other duties appropriate to the assignment. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs) KNOWLEDGE: Of techniques in collecting medical case history and documentation; specific observations and examination procedures; diagnostic methodology, ordering and interpreting laboratory studies; therapeutic principles, practices and techniques; rules and regulations limiting procedures established by State relative to regulatory agencies. SKILL: In taking and monitoring vital signs; taking medical history and completing physical examination; interpreting and evaluating laboratory tests, X-rays, EKGs; suturing, splint and casting, and minor surgical procedures; diagnosing illness/disease and injury; and treating the individual and follow up care. ABILITY: To establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and health associates. SPECIAL SELECTION FACTOR: Must possess a license and/or certification for a Physician Assistant approved by the Joint Board of Physician Assistants or Nurse Practitioner approved by the Arizona Board of Nursing. Applicant must provide license number on resume and a copy of the license at time of interview. Employment is contingent on the successful applicant passing a background investigation and pre-employment drug-test. Positions in this classification participate in the Corrections Officer Retirement Plan (CORP).
