| Description: | Performs work of considerable difficulty related to overview of clinical policies and procedures, issuance of standing medical protocols, and physical examination and treatment and/or guidance of inmates housed at the Coconino County Detention Facility and the Page Satellite Facility. TYPICAL DUTIES: • Approves new and revised clinical policies and procedures which adhere to generally recognized standards of medical practice; • Develops and approves standing protocols for non-physician clinicians/nurses and acts as the final authority on medical care; • Is available, or arranges for other physician coverage in the medical director’s absence, for consultation with non-physician clinicians/nurses during clinic hours of operation; • Physical examination and treatment of selected patients as needed; • Participates in the budgeting and quality assurance process; • Assists the clinic manager in clinician performance evaluations; • Identifies and assists with the training of clinicians to improve clinical practice and learn new techniques. Essential functions of this position include: driving; standing and walking to make rounds, etc; vision acuity (near & far); working with and around other staff members, detention officers and inmates; hearing and speech for ordinary conversation with peers and inmates. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Requires: Arizona MD or DO license, prescription privileges, an active DEA number, five years of clinical experience. Must obtain an Arizona driver’s license by date of hire and maintain it throughout employment. Candidate must successfully pass a background investigation and polygraph. Preferences: Board certification preferred. The ideal candidate is an MD or DO, Arizona Licensed, with prescription privileges, an active DEA number and five years of clinical experience. Would prefer a board certified Physician. The ideal candidate will be an individual with an understanding of the unique challenges facing clinicians when caring for incarcerated inmates at a county correctional facility. They must be skilled at interpreting diagnostic indicators and prescribing appropriate treatment protocols. This position is exempt from overtime. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Considerable knowledge of: • medical diagnosis and treatment of acute, chronic and communicable diseases; • public health, epidemiology and surveillance principles; • preventive medicine and health practices; • procedures utilized in providing clinical services within public programs. Working knowledge of: • general office practices and procedures; • the techniques of positive supervision; • medical office management. Skill in: • interpreting diagnostic indicators and prescribing appropriate treatment protocols; • the use of medical tools, equipment, and materials within a clinical setting.. Ability to: • maintain records and prepare reports; • establish and maintain effective working relationships with a clients, employees, other agencies and the public; • follow verbal and written instructions; • communicate effectively verbally and in writing. |
