Description: GENERAL SUMMARY Plans and coordinates employee selection activities for the Ada County Sheriff's Office and performs related duties as required. The position is located in the Ada County Sheriff's Office, Human Resources Department. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Plans and coordinates employee selection activities for the Ada County Sheriff's Office including training interviewers and developing, implementing, and analyzing selection strategies and materials; Recommends, monitors, and evaluates effectiveness of selection goals, policies, procedures, plans and priorities; Advises applicants of job opportunities, application requirements, selection or non-selection, and status of application; Coordinates the application process for Ada County Sheriff's job announcements; Maintains current job postings on Job Line and Sheriff's Internet web site; Processes applications for employment and maintains applicant database; Reviews applications for appropriate experience and education qualifications according to prescribed standards and makes recommendations; Pre-screens candidates; Organizes, leads and documents post-interview debrief/feedback sessions with interview teams; Orders, schedules and proctors necessary testing such as physical agility tests, written examinations, and oral exercise assessments; Drafts and distributes examination announcements and bulletins; Updates screening interview and oral board questions as needed; Prepares screening inquiries and interviews potential applicants; Serves as the Sheriff's HR representative in oral board interviews; Consults with and advises management and supervisors in selection and staffing issues; Composes memoranda and letters; Compiles statistical information and documentation and prepare reports and recommendations; Explains personnel rules, regulations, policies and procedures; Creates and updates job descriptions as required; Researches wage comparisons as required; May draft and place recruitment advertisements for websites, newspapers, professional magazines and recruiting publications; Makes public presentations as necessary; and Performs other duties as required. JOB REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience; Experience in employee selection to include resume review, interviewing, and coordination of selection activities required; Must have excellent customer service skills and the ability to be flexible in responding to a variety of requests; Must be Internet savvy and experienced in mining online databases; Must have excellent project coordination, writing, and verbal communication skills; Knowledge of human resource administration and selection methods; Knowledge of EEO and non-discrimination laws in regard to recruitment and hiring; Knowledge of office terminology, procedures, and equipment; Knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation, and arithmetic; Knowledge of personal computers and word processing applications; Skill in using word processing applications and proofreading material; Skill in communicating with culturally diverse populations; Ability to establish and maintain records systems; Ability to review documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance; Ability to compile data and information for reports; Ability to compose letters and memoranda; Ability to interpret policy and procedure manuals; Ability to explain complex information in an understandable fashion; Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; Ability to exercise tact and discretion; Ability to work under own initiative and utilize independent judgment; Ability to type 40 words per minute with accuracy. OTHER REQUIREMENTS Must appear before an oral board and pass a polygraph and background investigation prior to being hired; This position has been designated safety sensitive and therefore the incumbent is subject to random drug testing. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS Work is performed primarily in an office environment and the employee in this class is subject to inside environmental conditions; May be required to lift up to 20 lbs.; Requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to function in a general office environment to accomplish tasks.
