Testing is conducted through National Testing Network (NTN). Make initial assessment of inmate for any medical, safety, or security reasons. Prepare and maintain records and logs related to daily activities, bookings maintenance needs and inmates. Process court documents and provide inmate information to other law enforcement agencies, courts and other jail personnel. Work is performed in a detention center, exposing the incumbent to potentially dangerous people. Incumbent may experience long periods of sitting and driving as well as possibly pursuing a fleeing person on foot, requiring physical agility. Incumbents work 4 - 12 hour shifts followed by 4 days off. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Books, Supervise, Receives, Discharge and assures the safety of City jail inmates. Prepares and maintains records and logs related to daily activities Process court documents & provide information to other law enforcement agencies Operate control room Monitor & operate closed circuit television cameras and emergency monitors Make initial assessment of inmate for any medical, safety or security reasons Area Information: Issaquah is a residential community located on I-90 approximately 18 miles from downtown Seattle, at the south end of Lake Sammamish. The City's proximity to the greater Seattle area provides cultural and educational opportunities typically available in larger urban areas. The Puget Sound beaches and numerous lakes provide many recreation opportunities, Snoqualmie Pass is a 45-minute drive, and the many trails in the Issaquah foothills have earned the City the title of "Trailhead City". Schools are managed by the Issaquah School District, which has an excellent reputation for the programs, which serve students in its 100 square mile jurisdiction in and around Issaquah. Issaquah was incorporated in 1892, and operates with a Mayor/Council form of government. The City has approximately 27,000 residents with a day time population that swells to approximately 50,000. The City encompasses 10.65 square miles, and is experiencing growth as a result of economic and residential development. Issaquah is a full-service City with 240 regular employees. The City anticipates continued residential and commercial expansion, as well as the potential for substantial annexations, including a sizable master planned community and is a great place to raise a family and experience the variety of outdoor activities within the area. Population: 33,000 Job Requirements Age: 21 US Citizen: Yes High School Grad/GED: Yes Valid WASHINGTON State Driver's License: Yes Ability to Read/Speak English: Yes Vision: Correctable to 20/20 KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED: Knowledge of and ability to set up and maintain computerized records and prepare reports Knowledge of and ability to apply correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing Ability to work within the scope of authority and to carry out orders Ability to assure the safety and security of City jail inmates, as well as receive, book, process and discharge inmates Ability to supervise, observe, move, escort, and secure inmates during daily activities, and work effectively with potentially hostile and abusive inmates Ability to learn, apply and explain laws, codes, rules, regulations and procedures, including health and safety procedures Ability to relate effectively to people of a variety of cultures, languages, handicaps, and socio-economic situations Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others using tact, patience, and courtesy Knowledge of basic math: add, subtract, multiply and divide quickly and accurately Ability to type 35 words per minute Ability to work varied schedules and shifts Applicants must pass a background and physical fitness examination and complete the Washington Criminal Justice Training Center Basic Corrections Academy A no-smoking policy applies to City Hall buildings.
