Testing is conducted through National Testing Network. Salary Information: $4,122.47 - $4,768.62 Monthly $49,469.64 - $57,223.44 Annually Benefit Information: Medical, dental, orthodontia, life, vision and prescription insurance, HRA in lieu of medical option for eligible employees; paid holidays; vacation and sick leave; employee assistance program; and the applicable retirement program through the State of Washington Department of Retirement Systems. General Position Summary: Perform clerical and security functions to ensure the safe, effective and efficient operations of the Cowlitz County Jail while providing care and custody of the inmates. Job Requirements Age: 21 US Citizen: Yes High School Grad/GED: Yes Valid WASHINGTON State Driver's License: Yes Ability to Read/Speak English: Yes Minimum Qualifications: 1. Successfully complete Basic Corrections Academy, First Aid and CPR training within the first six months of employment. 2. Successfully complete all defensive tactics level one and level two training to include handgun retention. 3. All Corrections Officers hired after January 1, 1994 must become firearms qualified prior to completion of probation and maintain firearms qualification. 4. Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. 5. Successfully pass a physical agility test, pass a full background investigation, pass a polygraph exam and a psychological profile interview. Customer service and interpersonal skills in dealing with inmates and the public. Develop and maintain good working relation with own department staff, other county employees, other private and public agencies. 2. Good written and oral communication skills to prepare professional reports, train and provide clear instructions. 3. Possess and develop modern supervision practices, motivational skills, and able to effectively delegate. 4. Ability to multi-task daily activities and determine work priorities. Good organizational skills to maintain records. 5. React with professionalism, leadership and control during stressful situations. 6. Able to exercise discretion over sensitive and confidential issues related to the department and its business. 7. Initiative with problem-solving skills, while following standard practices, policies and procedures of the department. 8. Perform all duties of the position in accordance to Policies and Procedures.
