| Description: | Title: Physician - Part-time/On Call WORK DESCRIPTION: Works closely with the Health Services Administrator, reports to Facility Medical Director. Directly supervises the physician extender, is available to any consulting offsite providers. WORK PRODUCT: Responsible for providing medical services to inmates, through sick call, infirmary/medical observation coverage, environmental health, and physical examinations in compliance with Emerald, facility and correctional healthcare directives. RESPONSIBILITY/AUTHORITY: Provide medical care for inmates as well as other health related programs. SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE: Medical skills essential, ability to perform routine as well as complex medical procedures. Knowledge of current medical practices and treatment modalities. Knowledge of correctional or clinic procedures and protocol required. Ability to perform tasks as outlined in Policy Manual and as instructed by the Medical Director. WORK ACTIVITIES: • Provide continuing medical services to inmates in clinical physician-patient relationships, including examination, diagnostic and emergency treatment. • Perform emergency treatment of staff, inmates and visitors. • Ensure proper administration and control of medications. • Recommend inmates for psychiatric and psychological evaluations. • Monitor and control expenditures. • Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed. Provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skills, procedures and intervention techniques. Maintain accountability of staff, inmates and property; adhere to safety practices. • It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Current license to practice medicine by the State Board of Medical Examiners. Two to five years’ medical practice is recommended, preferably in the correctional environment or emergency medicine.
