Description: Job Description : Incumbent works with minimal supervision receiving general instructions (verbally and/or in writing) and is responsible for utilizing security knowledge to resolve issues and inprove the facility operations. Non-standardized problems are discussed with the Supervisor and complete work is reviewed for compliance and accuracy. Incumbent acts as a positive role model in use of language, demeanor, behavior, and dress. Incumbent interacts with staff, visitors and offenders in a respectful manner. In the event of an emergency, the incumbent must immediately exhibit effective leadership. Consequences of error could be extreme if property loss or loss of life occurs. Responsibilities : Ability to remain unbiased while interacting with offenders and staff. Ability to develop clear, concise and accurate reports. Ability to exercise tact and persuasion in dealing with staff and offenders. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to abide by the Department's Standard of Conduct and all behavior expectations. Ability to successfully operate all security equipment. Ability to observe visitors, offenders and staff and to accurately recall details in order to write correct, concise reports. Ability to recognize and report basic symptoms of illness, dysfunctional, and/or inappropriate behavior. Ability to accept supervision and constructive feedback. Ability to supervise offenders during daily activities to include work, shower and bath periods, leisure periods and meal times. Ability to issue verbal instructions with authority. Ability to successfully utilize mechanical and soft restraints. Ability to remain physically and mentally alsert for long periods of time Ability to work within a culturally diversified environment. Ability to test negative on all drug tests. Ability to successfully complete all required training and certifications. Ability to use timely and proper judgement when reacting to critical incidents. Ability to be available to report to facility at any time due to a facility emergency. Ability to work under emergency conditions. Knowledge of conflict resolution and crisis intervention techniques. Knowledge of safety hazard precautions. Working knowledge of basic street slang and security threat groups. Working knowledge of and ability to perfrom approved self-defense techniques. Working knowledge of offender manipulation techniques. Knowledge of security procedures. Knowledge of Federal Laws, Indiana Codes, and Department of Corrections policies and procedures. Ability to read, understand and follow written instructions in the performance of duties (Post orders, etc.) Knowledge of due process, criminal and civil liability. Ability to adhere to the Department's dress code and grooming requirements. Knowledge of the State's ethics rules and regulations. Possess positive role model traits. Preferred Experience: Possession of a high school diploma or possession of a General Education Development (GED) certificate. (Proof of diploma or certificate must accompany application.) Work experience, military experience and/or completed accredited college credits preferred. Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age. Willingness to undergo a background investigation. Possession of a valid driver's license from state of residence comparable to an Indiana license required. (Proof of license must accompany application.)
