| Description: | House of Correction The House of Correction (HOC) receives and maintains custody of all prisoners in Milwaukee County sentenced and committed by an authorized court for periods not exceeding one year; prisoners from other jurisdictions are accepted as authorized by County ordinance. Services offered by the House of Correction are performed in conjunction with the Detention Services Bureau of the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department. Mission Statement: The Milwaukee County House of Correction is dedicated to providing a safe and secure environment for staff, community and inmates. To this end, all under its employ will display professional conduct, which exemplifies honesty, integrity and personal responsibility. | Special Instructions: | U.S. citizen; Residence required within 6 months of hired date; Minimum age - 19; Driver license; Good driving record; Good physical condition; Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification; High school diploma; Associate degree - Correctional/Police Science desirable; No felony convictions; No domestic abuse convictions; Vision correctable to 20/20; Good verbal and written communication skills; React quickly and effectively to stressful situations; Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays; Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems; Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously; Ability to use all standard law enforcement equipment The Examination: PUBLIC SAFETY DUTIES: Under general supervision, to perform a variety of correctional duties; to safeguard and supervise inmates; to maintain discipline and enforcement rules and regulations in the Milwaukee County House of Correctional facilities; to observe, monitor and evaluate inmate behavior; to supervise inmate visiting, programs and recreations; to conduct electronic and physical searches of prisoners, visitors and buildings; use of a computer terminal; to orient, classify and interact with inmates; to control, direct and instruct inmates individually and/or in large groups; to restrain combative inmates; to accept inmates into custody and to release inmates from custody to proper authority; and to maintain records |
