| Description: | We are seeking candidates who share our Mission: Community Safety, Community Restoration, and Offender Change. The County Home School (CHS) is a state-licensed residential treatment center for juveniles age 13 to 19, committed by the court for felony level offenses. The CHS provides a safe, secure healthy environment on a 167 acre site in Minnetonka, just 10 miles west of Minneapolis. The campus includes residential cottages, a transitional living program, a school with gymnasium, an administration and services building, horse barn, indoor riding arena, and recreational areas. Residents are committed by the Juvenile Court to one of the following programs that are offered: Adolescent Male Treatment Program (AMTP), Adolescent Female Treatment Program (AFTP), Adolescent Female Community Service Program (AFTP) or Juvenile Sex Offender Program (JSOP). The list created by this announcement will be used to fill full-time and intermittent* (on-call) positions. This position requires you to work various shifts, which include nights, weekends, evenings. Anyone indicating limited availability will not be considered. *Please note: intermittent appointments shall not exceed 1,039 hours in any twelve-month period and are non-benefit earning positions. This position is classified as a Juvenile Correctional Officer in the Hennepin County job classification system. Please note: The CHS is located at 14300 County Road 62, Minnetonka, MN. (Bus service to the County Home School location is limited so you may need your own transportation.) Primary duties and responsibilities for this position include: Act as a role model for juvenile offenders Work with multidisciplinary teams of professionals which may include supervisors, program director, other JCO's, social workers, recreation therapists and probation officers Partner with co-workers to plan, organize, administer and supervise resident daily activities, such as recreation, school and volunteer programs, and leisure activities and therapeutic groups Enforce resident related policies; record incidents, positive and negative, in appropriate logs and reports Keep the institution safe for staff and residents by building relationships, employing deescalation techniques, using verbal commands, and employ physical & mechanical restraints when necessary May receive/release juveniles from facility; May transport residents to appointments with county vehicle Establish healthy relationships and maintain professional boundaries with youthful offenders in the institution Acknowledge and reward youthful offenders when they are doing right and hold them accountable when they do something wrong Ideal candidates must be at least 21 years of age and have: Experience serving the needs of youth in a residential or non-residential setting (teachers, group counselors, outreach workers, coach/mentor, etc.) One of the following: Four years of full-time documented experience in a correctional, residential treatment or other comparable setting which involves the supervision and/or control of clients A bachelors degree in human services, behavioral science or other related field Professional and respectful verbal communication skills Commitment and dedication to the needs of adolescent offenders and their families Ability to recognize and respects cultural differences and provide culturally appropriate services. Knowledge of and experience with Hispanic, Asian, American Indian, African American and new immigrant cultures is desirable A valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record including no more than two moving violations in the last three years of licensure required for positions at the County Home School In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who are fluent in English and one the following languages: Spanish, Somali, Hmong, Russian are encouraged to apply.
