The Director of Corrections Education is responsible for developing, coordinating and overseeing programs that direct inmate education at Deer Ridge Correctional Institution. This individual leads the inmate education team in providing quality, competency-based instruction in a variety of areas, including Adult Basic Education, General Education Diploma preparation, Basic Skills, and Work-based Education to include a Welding Lab at the Minimum and Medium security prisons. The Director will work closely and collaboratively with both COCC extended learning and the Oregon Department of Corrections to ensure that programs are meeting the needs of the institution. Perform all functions and activities within a team-based model and actively participates as a member of assigned college teams and committees. Conform to the guiding principles of the college culture. Maintain and cultivate a close connection to the campus community and fosters positive relationships between corrections instructors and staff and the COCC community. Duties are primarily administrative and include some Adult Basic Skills testing activities. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND TASKS: Essential Job Functions 1. Provides leadership and onsite supervision of all education programs at DRCI 2. Coordinate/collaborates with COCC, ABE Director and the Corrections Institutions Superintendents to plan, develop, evaluate, and supervise academic and work-based education programs for inmates. 3. Supervises and evaluates Welding Program Director, ABE instructors and support staff; plans, assigns and reviews work; evaluates employee performance within the guidelines of the applicable union contracts and college procedures. 4. Hire, supervise and evaluate part-time ABE instructors and part-time instructional lab assistants 5. Actively participates as a member in the College and Institution Management team. Serves on Department of Corrections and community committees. Initiates and maintains communications with outside agencies. Provides periodic reports to the ABE Director at COCC. 6. With the Senior Director of College Prep, provides appropriate reports and updates to the contractor (DOC) and other state or local entities. 7. Responsible for staff orientation, training and development activities and supervises instructional activities in coordination with the College ABE and Manufacturing departments, DOC, and other entities as directed by supervisor. 8. Develop, implements and monitors program budget within the guidelines set forth by both the college and DOC. Works closely with college Finance officer to ensure appropriate billing and reimbursement by DOC. Monitors and approves expenditures. 9. In coordination with the ABE Director of COCC, is responsible for scheduling courses and assigning instructors to teach courses with the confines of the contract. Also is responsible for Welding Program Director and classified staff, their workload and assignments within the contract. 10. Work closely with the DOC Workforce Development Administration and appropriate COCC staff to ensure statement of work is accomplished, correct data and pertinent information is delivered in timely manner. 11. Perform other essential duties as assigned. QUALIFICATION STANDARDS Requirements: 1. Bachelor’s degree required in Administration and Leadership, Adult Education, English as a Second Language or closely related field. 2. Three years managerial experience in an adult education program. Preferences: 1. Master's degree strongly preferred 2. Consideration given to managerial experience in similar environments and/or in programs serving similar populations 3. Teaching Experience preferred. 4. Experience with unions and complex contracts desired.
