Description: Duties will be handling, preparing, cooking and serving food for regular, modified and special diets at a state hospital, facility or institution. This includes maintaining clean and sanitary work, preparation and serving areas. Employees are assigned responsibility for the administration of a food service unit and activities of assigned staff, which may include employees, inmates and/or others in the preparation and serving of food in a state facility or institution. Providing direction to staff members in completing assigned work and ensure completion of required activities. Responsibility will also be assigned for interpreting menus and menu instructions, ensuring proper hygiene and sanitation methods are followed, inspecting kitchen and dining areas, requisitioning supplies and maintaining a store room. Basic mathematics. Ability to follow oral and written instructions plus knowledge of ingredients used in baking and cooking, weights and measures used in cooking, calculating and measuring ingredients. Have the ability to operate kitchen equipment and utensils plus knowledge in practices and problems of meat storage and preparation. Have knowledge of modern methods and materials used in large scale baking, cooking, and meat cutting; mixing and adding ingredients to all types of meat, and knowledge in food stock control. Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices and basic nutrition and ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
Special Instructions: Three years experience in a commercial or institutional food service or an equivalent combination or education and experience, substitution one year of vocational or technical school training in food preparation for each year of the required experience. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; to locate suitable employment for parolees; to motivate clients to honor the terms of their probation or parole; to manage substantial caseloads; to give court room testimony; and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Probation and Parole officers begin employment as Level I with a monthly salary of $2,539.33 and after successful completion of two years at Level I or one year and master’s degree in psychology, sociology, social work, criminology, education, crimincal justice administration, penology, or police science you are promoted to Level II at a monthly salary of $2,722.59, then after successful completion f two years at Level II you are promoted to Level III with a salary of $2,994.53.
