President's Message:

Whenever I see or hear something outrageous, I am known for saying, "imagine that!" Well, I must admit to all of you that I'm speechless as it is still hard for me to "imagine that" I find myself serving as the president of NAAWS. FORTUNATELY, NAAWS is a great association of many people and our strength and success lies with the majority rather than with a humble but proud president. It is no secret that it is our membership that makes us strong.

So it is our membership and how we might work to strengthen our network of wardens that I'd like to continue to build upon. We can all participate in this effort. Please send the word out about our organization's mission and the many benefits of joining. Look us up on our website! Copy and spread the Grapevine! Help us promote recruitment efforts of new members and encourage all to register to attend the upcoming NAAWS Springfield Conference next April 2012.

I'm also proud to be associated with an organization that has taken a lead in giving to those when they most need it. The Make a Smile Campaign has been a terrific success for all and promotes the kind of giving spirit that we, as public servants, possess at our very core. Our continued recognition of those who place the safety and security of others before their own while in the line of duty, by way of the awarding of the Medal of Valor, is a testament to our sincere devotion to our fellow professionals. The naming and presentation of the annual Warden of the Year as well as the recognition of those also nominated for the honor provides a chance for us to learn more about the life time commitments and challenges of our peers.

There is no doubt that NAAWS will continue to thrive as a leader among organizations. We will call upon each and everyone of you to assist with our membership drive. Imagine what NAAWS strength would be if it were represented with a member in every local, state and national correctional facility? IMAGINE THAT? You know, with your help, I don't think that sounds so outrageous a goal afterall.
