| South Carolina Prisoner Shot During Apparent Escape Attempt |

An upstate S.C. prison inmate is in the hospital after being shot during an apparent escape attempt.Spartanburg County Detention Center officials allege that Michael Sellers, 29, tried to escape the facility around 10:30 a.m. Sunday. They said that Sellers was shot in the pelvic area by a detention center officer. 'He attempted to escape from the outside exercise area when he'd just been returned back to the annex An officer attempted to apprehend him,' detention center director Larry Powers said. Sellers has been an inmate at the facility since July. He was being held on grand larceny charges after changing the vehicle identification number on a car and trafficking methamphetamines. Sellers is being treated at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Officers said that he will be returned to the detention center in the next few days. The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating the shooting. |
