| PA Correctional Industries Begins Online Sales |

On behalf of Pennsylvania Gov. Mark Schweiker, Secretary of Corrections Jeffrey A. Beard announced recently that the department's Correctional Industries today began online sales of a wide range of its products, a move that is expected to improve service to customers, increase sales and put more inmates to work inside the state's correctional institutions. 'I'm excited to have the Department of Corrections enter the world of e commerce,' Secretary Beard said. 'The website will allow us to provide faster service and improved quality for the government and non-profit organizations that purchase quality `Big House' products from our Correctional Industries.' Correctional Industries, which sells its products to government and non-profit organizations under the 'Big House' brand, will offer more than 2,500 products in eight categories on the website. Five of the categories -- bed, bath and personal care; containers and bags; food; housekeeping; and recreation and storage -- are available today for online ordering. Three additional categories -- furniture, apparel and services -- will be available early next year. 'The online catalog will allow us to reach many more potential customers than the traditional sales approach that we used in the past,' Correctional Industries Director Marc Goldberg said. 'We are hoping that wider visibility will increase sales of our products, which, in turn, will allow us to provide greater inmate work opportunities.'
