Two inmates who escaped over the weekend were caught early Tuesday after a foot chase that spanned two counties and several hours, authorities said. Anderson County dispatcher Terry Keils said the fugitives were apprehended without incident in Grapeland about four hours after they allegedly robbed a liquor store in nearby Palestine. The fugitives, still barefoot and in their jail uniforms, fled from the store in a car that authorities said was low on gas. A Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter and search dogs were used to hunt down the fugitives, Keils said. Texas Rangers and other law officers also assisted in the chase. 'They apparently flushed them out and got them into custody,'' Keils said. Rocky Delphine Janes, 21, and Patrick Randall Poston, 36, both of Palestine, escaped Sunday from Anderson County Jail in Palestine, about 100 miles southeast of Dallas, by scaling a wall after telling officers they were going to a recreation yard. Janes was being held on aggravated robbery and assault causing bodily injury charges. He had escaped earlier this year after briefly holding a jail officer hostage, but was recaptured a short time later. Poston was jailed on charges of burglary of a building and evading arrest. |
