| Jail Housing Rates Increased |

Cleveland County commissioners voted Monday to charge cities $45 per day for housing their prisoners in the county jail, up from the longtime rate of $35 per day. The commissioners, though, tabled their vote on jail service agreements with Lexington and Moore for at least one more week so the county’s legal counsel can standardize agreements with all cities in the county. The new rate will be in effect at least until the new 542-person county jail opens in north Norman in 2011, according to the sheriff’s department’s recommendation. Assistant District Attorney David Batton said the next step will be presenting the new rate to the district court so the court clerk can make the change in that office’s records and documents.
