Published: 09/02/2010

The Connecticut Department of Correction is investigating the apparent suicide of an inmate at the Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Center in Uncasville.

At approximately 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 28, 2010, correctional staff was alerted to an inmate in a cell with a bed sheet tied around his neck. The other end of the sheet was secured to the top bunk bed. Correctional and medical staff immediately initiated emergency and life saving measures. The inmate was transported to Backus Hospital in Norwich where he was pronounced dead at approximately 10:00 p.m.

The inmate is identified as Timothy Savignac, 27, of Central Village. He was being held, pending trial, on a $275,500 bond with a controlling charge of Failure to Appear in the First Degree. He had most recently entered the system on August 10, 2010. He was the only inmate in the cell at the time.

The exact manner and cause of death will be determined by the State Medical Examiner’s Office. The Department of Correction Security Division and the Connecticut State Police are investigating the death.
