District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro's office obtained the conviction of Robere Nguyen Monday afternoon. The defendant pled guilty to Manslaughter for killing Michael Nguyen (n.b. the victim and the defendant were not related) on February 26,2010, in New Orleans East. Pursuant to the terms of the plea agreement the defendant will serve the maximum sentence of 40 years in prison. Additionally, the District Attorney's office required plead guilty as a second offender, which means the defendant must serve the entire 40 years (i.e. no reductions for "good time") pursuant to the rules of the Department of Corrections. On Friday February 26, 2010, Robere Nguyen shot and killed Michael Nguyen and was arrested the same day for the killing. The defendant was indicted on May 14, 2010, for one count of second-degree murder. After consulting with the victim's family, the District Attorney's office allowed the defendant to plead guilty to Manslaughter. Assistant District Attorneys Kevin Guillory and Jerry F.
