Torrington - Warden Steve Hargett and the Wyoming Department of Corrections (WDOC) is pleased to announce the employees of the first quarter for the Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution (WMCI) in Torrington, Wyoming: Correctional Officer Andrew Grabowski (Uniformed Employee) and Records Manager, Melody Norris (Non-uniformed Employee).

Officer Andrew Grabowski began his career with the Department in January, 2010. Officer Grabowski’s professionalism and helpful attitude sets a positive example for other officers at WMCI to follow. Officer Grabowski strives to be the best at what he does, and to learn new skills required to become an effective officer. He has fully embraced his role on the Security Threat Group (STG) team. His observation and leadership skills have developed intelligence that would not have been possible if not for his hard work. Grabowski continues to show interest in learning more about intelligence gathering, investigations, and STG awareness. Officer Grabowski is firm, fair, and consistent and is respected by both staff and inmates alike. He is always willing to go the extra mile and take on extra responsibility without being asked and remains consistent with his promptness, work ethic, and positive attitude.

Records Manager, Melody Norris left Davison, MI in 2006 to begin her career with the Department in January, 2007. Melody has worked in both the Mental Health Unit and the Records Department at the Wyoming State Penitentiary, in Rawlins, WY, prior to promoting to Records Manager at WMCI in 2010. Melody Norris is true professional and an extraordinary supervisor. She has established herself as an individual that staff can look to for direction regarding Policy and Procedure, inmate time calculations, intake procedures, and retention of records. Melody is visible and available to the inmate population and answers all inquiries in a timely and appropriate manner. She also makes herself available to staff and regularly schedules training for security staff outside her regular work hours in order to more efficiently meet the needs of the facility. Melody has a gift for keeping a positive attitude and good sense of humor even during the most stressful times. Due to her efforts and expertise, she had built a records management team that is accurate, efficient, and dependable. Melody helped WMCI with the transition of becoming the intake facility not only in the records department, as well as at both the caseworker and security levels. Melody serves as a Vice-Chairman of the WMCI Cares committee and successfully spearheaded collecting donations that were given away staff via drawings, during Correctional Professional’s Week. As a result of her diligent work, 12 local businesses donated discounts during the week, and three-hundred, seventy-five (375) door prizes. Melody received a “Caught Doing It Right Pen” from Deputy Administrator for Prison Operations, Mr. Scott Abbott, for locating escapees. Melody also led her team to be the first DOC facility to change all records over to the new electronic system.

WMCI congratulates both employees, and extends wishes to them, for continued success.
