TRENTON — A former correction officer at New Jersey State Prison pleaded guilty today to smuggling a cell phone to an imprisoned Bloods gang leader in 2008, the Attorney General’s office said.

Brian C. Teel of Hamilton could face five years in prison for smuggling the phone to Clarence Scott, the leader of the Paterson-based Nine Trey Hillside Beehive set of the Bloods street gang, the office said in press release.

Scott, 39, is serving a life sentence with 35 years of parole ineligibility for a 2002 murder.

Teel, 45, was paid $500 to smuggle the phone to Scott, who allegedly continued to issue orders to gang members from his cell, the release said.
