Iowa Senate spending bill would hire more troopers, prison employees |

The Iowa Senate on Tuesday approved a $554 million state justice systems spending bill that includes money to hire an additional 20 state troopers and another 33 correctional officers for the state's prisons. The Senate bill, which was sent to the Iowa House, would increase spending by $6.6 million over the current state fiscal year for the Department of Corrections, Department of Public Safety, attorney general's office, Board of Parole, Civil Rights Commission, Homeland Security and other state agencies.
