Wisconsin may expand 12-hour days for guards to second prison |

Madison — Correctional officers at one state prison now work 12-hour instead of eight-hour shifts, and Gov. Scott Walker's administration is considering expanding the program to another institution next year. Whether the move will save the state money or cost it more isn't clear. Lengthening the shifts has gotten good reviews at the prison where it has been in place for six months, but some officers at the institution that could next see the change are skeptical of the idea. Jennifer Murphy, a sergeant at Redgranite Correctional Institution, opposes a proposal to move to 12-hour shifts at her prison next year. Her husband also works at the prison, and she believes it would be all but impossible to get day care for their 5-year-old special needs child if the change is made. Read More. |
