Chateaugay prison officially closes; former employees not leaving area |

CHATEAUGAY — The Chateaugay Correctional Facility officially locked down for good Saturday, putting an end to 114 corrections officer and civilian jobs here, but apparently not chasing all those employees and their families out of the community. According to local real estate agents, the school district and the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, the former employees aren’t selling their homes in droves. In fact, most have been reassigned to correctional facilities within commuting distance. Chateaugay Central School District Superintendent Loretta D. Fowler said the district didn’t lose one student because of the closing. According to previous reports, about 20 families had children in the district as of this spring, but none had left.
