NAACP hears blunt talk about how community should deal with ex-prisoners

John Wetzel doesn't have time for buzzwords and worn-out expressions about how Pennsylvania should reform the way it treats and houses prisoners — he wants action.

The secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections was direct and unapologetically blunt about the role communities play in such reform while speaking Saturday night at the Allentown Branch of the NAACP's 72nd Annual Freedom Fund and Awards Banquet.

Wetzel said the community must not only help people get back on their feet once they're out of prison, but keep them from getting locked up in the first place.
