All five applicants for jail contract to be interviewed |

All five architectural firms interested in helping Lewis and Clark County with its plans for a new detention center will be interviewed. Proposals submitted by all of them outlined their experience and qualifications for the $150,000 contract. County officials have said they need to decide how large to build the new facility, the cost and where it should be located. According to a timetable for the project, voters would be asked in November 2015 to approve bonds to finance construction of a new detention center. The current detention center opened in 1985 with 58 beds for inmates. However, the facility functions best when not all of the beds are filled, which allows room for each day’s arrests. Additional beds have been welded into the detention center to increase capacity, but even being able to accommodate 70 inmates, the facility remains overcrowded.
