Delaware Courts May Implement LSI-R Risk Assessments |

The Delaware court system, in conjunction with the state Department of Correction, is working to implement a specific type of risk assessment, known as Level of Service Inventory-Revised, to evaluate recidivism among pretrial defendants. Delaware Department of Correction Commissioner Robert M. Coupe discussed the collaborative effort last week at the Justice Reinvestment Oversight Group meeting. Coupe said he has met with public defender Brendan O'Neill, state prosecutor Kathleen Jennings and Chief Justice Leo E. Strine Jr. about expanding LSI-R's use to Delaware's pretrial detention population. "Right now we are trying to identify how to start a pilot program so we could use it on detentioners and determine if that instrument could be of value to the court, the public defender and the AG's office during plea bargaining and sentencing," Coupe said.
