Arizona Inmates' Healthcare Quality Major Concern

A new series of reports says the quality of healthcare for inmates in Arizona’s prisons is declining to dangerous levels. It’s a finding disputed by the Department of Corrections.

Don Specter, director of the Prison Law Office, said the reports were requested from national advisors in prison healthcare as part of a lawsuit against the Arizona Department of Corrections.

The reports, “Come to the unanimous conclusion that the Arizona healthcare system is…an abysmal failure," he said.

Arizona’s correctional system puts prisoners at serious risk of sickness and death because of a lack of access to adequate healthcare, he added.
