SALEM, Ore. – For officers, it may be the toughest beat around. "I can't even count the number of times I've been assaulted," said Sgt. Dan Russ, who works inside the Oregon State Penitentiary. "I've had every body fluid thrown on me that there is – been bitten, been kicked, punched, scratched." In 2013, there were 126 inmate assaults on Oregon Department of Corrections staff.
