Elmira prison put on lockdown after stabbings |

The Elmira Correctional Facility was placed on lockdown Friday afternoon, according to the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision. Acting Commissioner Anthony J. Annucci ordered a lockdown of the prison after a number of homemade weapons were found following Wednesday’s assault on correction officers. Inmate Darius Ashley, 38, formerly of the Albany area, is suspected of stabbing two officers Wednesday during a cell search. One officer was stabbed seven times in the upper body with a nail-type weapon and was hospitalized at Arnot Ogden Medical Center. A second officer received puncture wounds.
