Moore attack suspect was part of DOC early release program

On paper, Alton Nolen should have still been behind bars on the day police say he went into Vaughan Foods in Moore and attacked two women. Nolen was allowed to serve less than two years of a six-year prison sentence on a drug conviction as part of an early release program within the Department of Corrections.

“There has been a system in which inmates could earn time off of their sentence since essentially statehood,” said Jerry Massie, a spokesman for the Department of Corrections.

But that early release program is now being questioned following high-profile crimes tied to inmates who were released early.
